18/06/2008 FATHERS ENJOY DAY OUT AT RACING VENUE
Getting up close to an ING Renault Formula One racecar proved to be the Father’s Day treat of choice when customers from SMC Weybridge took part in a special summer driving event.
The “Ride and Drive” took place at Kempton Racecourse and allowed youngsters to invite their dads to experience a slice of Formula One action before putting cars from Renault’s road-going range to the test.
During the two-day event which took place over the Father’s Day weekend, guests were able to test drive the Renault range including the much-loved Clio, Mégane, Laguna and Twingo models, before being given a free entry ticket to nearby Hampton Court.
As well as the racer, guests got to see the Clio Sport Tourer, as well as Renault’s first-ever 4x4 crossover the Koleos, with visitors among the first in the UK to experience its off-road capabilities at the hands of a qualified driver.
While adults enjoyed testing the cars and experiencing the “Dynamic Drive” where a professional driver demonstrated the safety equipment on a Mégane Renaultsport 225, children were kept entertained with a “Tales from the Glovebox” storytelling corner and a colouring competition.
David Goodman of Hersham was one of the lucky dads who took his children to the event.
David said: “I already have a Grand Scénic, but like it so much that I am looking to get another one or an Espace at some point in the near future.
“The children had a brilliant day out and enjoyed everything from the simulator to the ING Renault F1 Team goody bags!”
Hasan Uctas, whose family looked at the Koleos and Grand Scénic added: “It was good to experience the Koleos off-road – it looks good and is very comfortable.
“We really enjoyed ourselves and were pleased with all the added activities that made it a really nice family day out.”

27/02/08 New Business Centre at SMC Weybridge
Local businesses have a new van and fleet expert on hand at SMC Weybridge to give specialist advice.
Stuart Menges moved from SMC Guildford to the Weybridge branch of Surrey’s largest Renault dealer at the end of January to set up the specialist van centre. He now provides fleet solutions for businesses with car and van needs alike from the dealership in Oatlands Drive.
Stuart started at SMC Guildford in 2007, and before that worked with Renault for seven years at various dealerships in the south east.
“Our fleet department at SMC Guildford has always been very strong, and we identified the same need for local businesses in the Weybridge area to be served by a dedicated fleet centre which provides a different level of service to just van sales.
“We understand vans and have them on display. We want to establish and nurture relationships with local businesses because we understand that they don’t just need a van, but also such things as servicing, ply-lining, racking, security roof racks, which we can all do here at SMC on site.
“SMC also has a business club to reward loyal business customers by giving discounts on servicing. Essentially we are a one-stop shop and we can offer advice on sales, leasing and financing options.”
19/12/0 NEW RENAULT LAGUNA ACHIEVES ONE OF HIGHEST EVER EURO NCAP CRASH TEST SCORES
Laguna II was the first vehicle to ever achieve a five-star rating in the passive safety assessment tests carried out by the independent body, Euro NCAP. It was a result that took the car into a new era. Today, it’s the turn of New Laguna to achieve the same maximum five-star rating. With a total of 36 points from a possible 37, one of the highest scores ever recorded in the tests, the newcomer even outperformed its predecessor to once again highlight Renault`s expertise in the realm of passive safety. In addition to its Euro NCAP credentials, New Laguna delivers reassuring handling thanks to its precise, responsive chassis, while at the same time ensuring a level of braking and technology that puts it at the top end of its category in real-life motoring conditions.

29/08/07 FOUR STARS IN EURONCAP FOR NEW TWINGO
New Twingo has scored four stars and 28(*) points out of 37 in the passive safety tests conducted by the independent organisation EuroNCAP.
Alongside this excellent, officially recognised level of passive safety, New Twingo also delivers reassuring handling and class-leading road manners with sure-footed, reliable performance.
Optimal protection for all the occupants
Like all the vehicles in the Renault range, New Twingo features technologies that have proved their efficiency in real driving situations.
The restraint system comprises pretensioners with load limiters, an anti-submarining bar at the front, rear seats with profiled cushions to avoid submarining (when the pelvis slips under the lower seat belt) and a new generation-airbag for the front passenger seat. This restraint system prevents submarining and thus avoids serious injuries to the chest, stomach and legs.
In the event of impact, three systems are activated in succession in less than ten-thousandths of a second. The pretensioners keeps passengers in their seats, while the load limiters reduce the pressure of the seat belt on the occupant`s chest to avoid injury, and the airbags deploy to cushion the impact.
New Twingo has up to six airbags: two at the front and two lateral airbags as standard, and optional curtain airbags. The front passenger seat features a so-called "3D" airbag, a first for Renault. The shape and volume of this airbag optimises the distribution of force between the passengers head and chest in the event of impact.
New Twingo also demonstrates Renault`s expertise in child safety. It is equipped as standard with Isofix anchorage points on the front passenger seat, making it easy to install a rear-facing child seat, as well as on both independent rear seats.
Twingo`s structure features energy-absorbing crumple zones to safeguard the cabin and protect all the occupants of the vehicle. In the event of frontal impact, the sill and door beam of New Twingo spread the force over the entire length of the car to absorb and dissipate the kinetic energy.
Class-best handling for a reassuring drive
Improving the performance of its predecessor, New Twingo is built on a B-segment chassis for a reassuring, reliable performance on all types of road surface (wet or dry).
New Twingo is a real car that makes no compromises on safety. It is fitted as standard with Continental MK70 ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency braking assist (EBA). Studies of real accidents have demonstrated the efficiency of EBA, which considerably reduces braking distances. New Twingo features ventilated front brake discs (diameter 259 mm) depending on the engine and equipment. New Twingo will soon be available with ESP, in order to bring customers a full range of features.
Visibility is increased by the large glazed areas and the ergonomic driving position and mirrors. The driver is thus able to better assess any dangers on the road. Comfort has also been significantly improved for tall drivers in terms of head-up vision.
New Twingo boasts modern driving aids, rarely seen on small city cars. It is available with a speed limiter, cruise control, and automatic lights, wipers and reversing radar.
A pragmatic and committed approach
Through an approach based on research into accidents and safety, Renault develops vehicles tailored to real road conditions. This means placing the emphasis on the technologies that are most efficient in preventing accidents, correcting unexpected situations and protecting passengers in the event of impact. Rather than being limited to an item of equipment or technology, Renault`s approach is global. Over the years, Renault has established itself as the benchmark manufacturer in automotive safety, as illustrated by its results in published ratings.
07/02/07 SMC AND 96.4 EAGLE FM READY TO HELP BUST THE JAMS
SMC Guildford’s showroom was jam-packed last week when the Renault dealership launched its partnership with 96.4 Eagle FM.
The dealership is doing its bit to help motorists avoid congestion when out and about on local roads in both Surrey and Hampshire by sponsoring the Eagle’s Jambuster traffic reports for 12 months.
Keith Wheeler, Sales Director at SMC, launched the campaign with 96.4 Eagle FM breakfast DJ Peter Gordon, better known as PG, as well as fellow DJ Kim Robson, at the SMC Guildford showroom on the Astolat Business Park.
Keith said: “Everyone here at the dealership listens to PG’s breakfast show on Eagle, and so it seemed natural to get involved with the Jambuster traffic reports. We decided to sponsor the feature as our way of helping to keep local drivers on the move. It was extremely valuable to local motorists during the recent snowy weather.”
For more information on SMC’s Renault range, visit SMC Guildford on the Astolat Business Park (01483 302 266), SMC Woking on Wych Hill (01483 720322) or SMC Weybridge on Oatlands Drive, (01932 855021) or alternatively click onto www.smcrenault.co.uk
If you see a jam on Surrey and Hampshire’s roads, call the 96.4 Eagle and SMC’s Jambuster Jamline on 0800 06 88 964 when safe and legal.
12/09/06 THOUSANDS SEEKING INFORMATION ON NEW CHILD SEATS LAW
Thousands of parents are contacting the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents for information on the new child car seat law which comes into force on Monday (Sept 18).
The number of visitors to RoSPA’s special website - www.childcarseats.org.uk - set up to help parents with queries about car restraints has been growing rapidly in recent weeks. About 5,000 people a day are currently logging on to the site – five times the number a year ago.
Kevin Clinton, RoSPA Head of Road Safety, said: “The interest has been phenomenal. It does show that people are aware that changes are on the way and they need to be prepared for them.
“A lot do seem to be leaving things until the last minute and we urge them to ensure they have the correct seats for their children’s size and for their car.
“The law makes it compulsory for children to use child car seats or booster seats.
“In the past, most children in cars have only had to be in an appropriate child restraint ‘if available’. That loophole will disappear on Monday (Sept 18), and children under 12 will not be able to wear an ordinary seatbelt in a car until they are over 4ft 5in (1.35m), with very few exceptions.”
He said many parents still did not put their children in any form of restraint in cars and it was hoped the new law would help to solve that problem. The Government estimates that if people comply with the changes, the legislation could save about 2,000 injuries a year among children on Britain’s roads.
Those who ignore the law face a £30 fixed penalty notice or £500 fine if the case goes to court.
“But it shouldn’t take the threat of punishment to ensure children are as safe as possible in cars,” Kevin Clinton said. “Adult seatbelts are designed for adults and not children and will not offer the same protection as a child car seat or booster seat or cushion. Parents should see this as a piece of positive legislation designed to reduce the likelihood or severity of injuries in a crash.”
Also on September 18, new regulations will be introduced requiring coach, bus and minibus passengers over 13-years-old to wear seatbelts where fitted.
09/02/06 RENAULT COMMITMENT 2009

Today President and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn announced "Renault Commitment 2009," a growth plan whose ambition is to make and sustain Renault as the most profitable European volume car company.
Renault makes three major commitments:
- Position the next Laguna, which will be launched in 2007, among the top three models in its segment in terms of product and service quality; - Achieve an operating profit margin of 6% in 2009; - Sell an additional 800,000 units in 2009 as compared to 2005.
"A new, exciting page in the history of Renault is being written, based on the motivation and dedication of the women and men of our company," said Mr. Ghosn.
An unprecedented product offensive in Renault history
Renault will launch 26 new products better focused on the needs and aspirations of its customers. The strength of the product plan will lead to an unprecedented acceleration of vehicle launches: in addition to the two launched in 2006, Renault will launch an average of eight models each year from 2007 to 2009, which is double the number launched from 1998 to 2005. Half of these cars will expand the lineup.
The product offensive will result in widening the lineup in four directions: - Renewing the pillars of the existing lineup – the Megane family, Twingo, Kangoo and Master; - Developing a luxury range: with five vehicles launched during the plan, Renault will double the volume of its sales in this segment1; - Entering new segments where Renault is currently not present, such as SUVs, 4x4s, crossovers and niche vehicles. - Developing products to support growth in markets outside Europe, such as with the Logan program.
Renault’s sales outside Europe are expected to grow from 27% of total sales in 2005 to 37% in 2009, an increase of 80%.
The average age of Renault products sold in Europe will drop from 3.8 years in 2005 to 2.2 years in 2009.
The enrichment of Renault’s offer is expected to increase sales by an additional 800,000 units in 2009 compared to 2005.
